How much would my “The Little Mermaid” video tape cover be worth?
I have a real old “The Little Mermaid” movie and it’s a very rare one. On the cover, at the top of the castle, is a male organ. I heard that someone who worked for Walt Disney had some issues with someone else that worked there and for revenge, he replaced the top fo the castle with a mans downstairs region. No joke, there really is a weinie on the front of my movie.
VHS tapes do not have much values as a collectible. The only VHS tapes that have any real value are ones that are out of print, and never made into DVD. These are becoming fewer and fewer as more and more movies are put out on DVD.
For Example: the movie “Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother” staring Gene Wilder was out of print for many years, I have seen VHS copies of it go for as much as $100. However, now it has been released on DVD, that same VHS is worth next to nothing.
I can not explain why some things (such as vinyl records) remain collectible and other things (such as cassette tapes) become basically worthless, but that is the way it is.
A collectible item is only as worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Your Little Mermaid video is still fairly common, most collectors who want it already have it. You never know though, put it on eBay with no reserve, and see what it sells for.
